FIRST-GENERATION NETWORK

What does it mean to be a First-Generation student? It means that one is the first or one of the first members of a family to go to college.
The First-Generation Network welcomes those who share in the first-generation experience and those who would like to participate in supporting first-generation college students and alumni from the University of Rochester.

I don’t just carry my own hopes and dreams. I also carry my mother’s, and my late father’s, my late grandfather’s, and the many generations before me who never had the opportunity, or the money, to step foot on a college campus.”

Claudia De Leon joined the team in July as the Associate Director of Affinity Networks and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Programs. Claudia will work with our Latinx and First-Generation networks, the REAL Conversations series, and continue the work of engaging underrepresented members of the University community through events and volunteer opportunities.
Claudia has been with the University since June 2013, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience from other departments including Education Abroad and Office of Minority Student Affairs, and most recently in the Office of Summer and Continuing Studies where she served as Assistant Director. Claudia’s vast experience working with first-generation students, students of color, and student affinity groups as well as her previous partnerships within the University will certainly be an incredible asset to our team.
